Have a story read by a musician from the New Haven Symphony with audio sound effects and musical illustrations!
A New Haven Symphony musician leads students through a discussion of how instruments work and make sound, how music tells a story, and how to be a good audience. He or she will illustrate with musical examples from the 18th century to contemporary compositions.
How does rock music differ from the music of Mozart? Be amazed as a group of New Haven Symphony musicians reinterpret classic rock songs once again made popular by Guitar Hero in the style of Mozart. They will also perform music composed by Mozart to compare the music separated by centuries.
Have a New Haven Symphony musician work directly with your students on performance technique one-on-one or in sectionals for one class period or an extended period.
NHSO musicians share their unique talents and perspectives on the music industry with groups of motivated students. This program is perfect as an add-on following ensemble performances; topics include but are not limited to: career investigation discussions, further exploration of ensemble concepts, mini-recitals, instrument discovery sessions and music-making for non-musicians. Special topics and collaborations are welcome, including interdisciplinary workshops with academic subjects.
What are those orchestral instruments that look so impressive up on the stage? And what does it take to play them? Students are able to touch, toot, tickle and maybe even tease a tune out of several orchestral instruments. Nothing peaks the curiosity like an opportunity to make a little music, and who knows, maybe there are a few budding virtuosos in our midst!
The Education Department always welcomes instrument donations for use in the Discovery Zones, so contact Hauk to donate an old or unused instrument.
NHSO musicians provide expert instruction to individuals or small groups of aspiring musicians. Technical and artistic advice is available to students of all ages and skill levels. Additional support is available through Side-by-Side programs where NHSO coaches sit-in and perform with student ensembles.
NHSO Music Director William Boughton has traveled the globe, guest-conducting in Asia, Russia, South America, and all over Europe and the U.S. Maestro Boughton will be touring Connecticut throughout the school year, guest conducting orchestras and bands at advanced levels. Why not book him for your school or arts organization?
