Music and Meditation

During the week of October 5th, NHSO Composer-in-Residence Jin Hi Kim visited Wintergreen Magnet School to conduct classes on Music Meditation and Korean Drums. Two groups of 10 students were introduced to different aspects of Korean Culture, meditative chants, the world of Korean percussion, and ensemble playing. From singing bowls to buk drums, these children saw a new world open before their eyes.

Kathryn Morse, Primary Music teacher at Wintergreen Magnet said of the experience, "As a school that prides itself on fostering diversity, Ms. Kim's workshop was the perfect fit for Wintergreen. Through her program of Korean Music and Meditation our students discovered a new world of music and instruments, but most importantly discovered their own inner energies and strengths through quiet focusing and meditation."
