How do I get to the concert hall?
Follow our driving directions for each of our Connecticut venues.
Where is the best place to park?
We provide parking information for all of our main concert locations.
Is there a good place to eat near the theatre?
Great places abound in New Haven. Try these.
How can I learn about the music?
The Preludes at the Beinecke Library (beginning January 2009) are free talks, given by Maestro Boughton or a guest speaker before each subscription concert. These engaging discussions begin one hour before the concert and last about 30 minutes. The Beinecke Library is located at 121 Wall Street, between College and High Streets, close to Woolsey Hall.
What should I wear to the performance?
Wear what makes you comfortable. “Business casual” is the norm, but some patrons opt for dressier attire and students are often more casual.
When should I applaud?
It is traditional to applaud only after a piece is finished and the conductor has lowered his or her hands. If you're listening to a symphony with four movements, it is appropriate to hold your applause until after the last movement. (Your program book will tell you the number of movements or sections in a piece.) There is usually a 15- to 30-second pause between movements.
Can I bring my children?
Children under seven are encouraged not to attend regular subscription concerts either in the Symphony Series or the Pops Series whose programs are generally too long for children. We do encourage children and their families to enjoy Family Concerts.
When should I arrive?
Concerts begin promptly. Late arrivals will be seated at an appropriate pause in the performance. If you must leave a concert before its end, please do so between selections.
