“Music washes away from the soul the durst of everyday life” Berthold Anerbach.
Board President's Message
Dear Symphony Patron:
In these difficult times, we need “music” in our lives more than ever to nurture our souls and bolster our spirits. Sadly, symphony orchestras are suffering due to the state of current economic conditions.
Under the baton of William Boughton, the NHSO has developed into the premier ensemble between New York and Boston. We are playing challenging and stimulating repertoires and the reviews have been excellent. This coming season, the NHSO will be performing all nine symphonies of Beethoven, in addition to many new and exciting selections.
In addition to our classical concert series at Woolsey Hall, and our Pops Series which continues to reach broad audiences in New Haven, Shelton and Fairfield, we have increased our commitment to our education and community engagement programs. This has been a response to the decline in arts programming in our schools. Our Education program currently reaches 30,000 children annually through over 126 programs such as our Family Concert Series and our Young Peoples’ Concerts (school concerts). We also performed Handel’s Messiah in New Haven, Madison, Old Lyme and Hartford during the Holiday season before enthusiastic crowds.
At the age of 115, we are the fourth oldest orchestra in the country and currently at the top of our game. With your help, despite the sagging economy, we can continue to evolve into the preeminent orchestra in Connecticut. However, we cannot fulfill our mission to bring our rich music to more audiences across the state without your help.
Your fully tax-deductable donation to the New Haven Symphony Orchestra would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you,
William S. Gedge
