Contract Requirements

In addition to its seven Symphony Series concerts, the NHSO produces three Pops series, one Young People's Concerts, outdoor concerts in the summer, and other special concerts. Rehearsals are usually held on Sunday and weekday evenings, averaging three rehearsals per Symphony Series. Concerts are usually on Thursday nights with a repeat on the weekend.

Contracted members are required to attend three of the seven sets of rehearsals and concerts for the Symphony Series (35 services) with the possibility of missing up to four series per season. Approximately thirty additional services may be offered based on availability, seniority, and required instrumentation. The contract is flexible concerning attendance for these additional services. The pay during the 2009-2010 season for assistant principal players was $118.80 per service and $99 per service for section players. In addition there is a travel pay allowance for players living more than 15 miles from New Haven (maximum of $25 per day). The collective bargaining agreement is currently under negotiation.
