If you are interested in applying for an opening in the NHSO, you must complete the Audition Application Form (click here to open pdf form for printing) and send it with your resume and a $30 refundable deposit by the date specified for your specific instrument. Even if you have auditioned with us previously, you will need to re-apply using the application form. Late applications will only be accepted if there are cancellations or unfilled audition times available. The NHSO reserves the right not to invite an applicant to the audition they have applied for.
The refundable deposit of $30.00 is required in order to secure an audition time. Please make your check payable to the NHSO. Your check will be returned to you at the audition. Cancellations must be received at the Symphony Office by noon on the business day prior to the audition in order to make your deposit refundable. You will forfeit your deposit if you do not notify us that you are canceling and you fail to show up for your audition.

Contract Information
The pay during the 2011-2012season for section players is $100.00 per service. For the 2012-13 season, the rate increases to $102.00 per service. In addition there is a travel pay allowance for players living more than 15 miles from New Haven (maximum of $25 per day). The offered positions begin with the May 2012 series and continue to the following season. In addition to its 7 Symphony Series concerts, the NHSO produces 3 Pops series, a Young People's Series, outdoor concerts in the summer, and other special concerts. Rehearsals are usually held on weekday evenings, averaging 4-5 services per Symphony Series. Concerts are usually on Thursday nights with some repeat performances on Sunday afternoon. Tenure decisions are made after 6 subscription series played. Orchestra members are required to play a minimum of 4 series in the 2012-13 season. Additional work may be offered depending on orchestra needs. Finalists from these auditions may also be added to the substitute list.
