Solo Bach: Any movement of a Bach unaccompanied solo
Solo Mozart: A movement of a Mozart Concerto
Brahms: Symphony No. 1 solo, 2nd movement, 1 bar before E until end
Mozart: Symphony No. 39, 1st mvmt. opening and Allegro; 3 rd movement (Minuet)
Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade solo passages
R. Strauss: Solo passages from Ein Heldenleben
R. Strauss: Don Juan, Beginning to letter B
Beethoven: String Quartet, Op. 18, no. 4, 1st movement, 1st violin (final round only)
Possible sight reading from standard orchestral excerpts.
Preliminary auditions will be held behind a screen. Final auditions will not use a screen. The NHSO does not provide any travel expense reimbursement for any audition round. In case this position is awarded to a current member of the NHSO another position may be offered. In addition, candidates may be asked to perform with the NHSO during one or more concerts in the 2007-2008 season.

In addition to its seven Subscription Series concerts, the NHSO produces three Pops series, one Young People's Concert Series, outdoor concerts in June, and other special concerts. Rehearsals are usually held on Sunday and weekday evenings, averaging four rehearsals per Winter Series concert. Contracted members are required to attend all rehearsals and concerts for the Winter Series (35 services) with the possibility of missing up to three series per season. Symphony Series Concert dates for 2007-2008 are: Sep. 20; Oct. 18; Nov. 15; Jan. 17; Feb. 14; Mar. 13; and May 1. Additional services may be offered. The per-service rate of pay during the 2007-2008 season for section players is $95. In addition there is a travel pay allowance for players living more than 15 miles from New Haven for Winter Series and Pops concerts (maximum of $20 per service). The current collective bargaining agreement expires May 31, 2008. Concertmaster pay is negotiable.

Cancellations must be received at the symphony office by noon on the business day prior to the audition in order to be refundable. If you do not notify us that you will not be attending then you will forfeit your deposit. This system is designed to minimize no-shows.
