A native of Connecticut, Susan Ashelford's unique and eclectic designs reflect
both her formal training and her extensive travels throughout the Northwest and
Southwest.
Now back in her Connecticut studio with her two dogs and cats, Susan's
remarkably expressive, one-of-a-kind designs display a wonderful sense of light
and color. Inspired by the interface of sun, sea and sky, she works almost
exclusively in silver and gemstones, beach glass and other found objects.
“I took my first metalsmith class at Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, it was
love at first hammer blow”. Working for a number of years with the skill set she
developed at CAW, she sought more extensive training and enrolled in school at
Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. “It was more rewarding than I
could have imagined, it was so thrilling to be submerged in and around so much
creativity”.
Since then Susan has opened a small boutique in the heart of downtown Milford,
where she maintains a workbench.
