Bruce Oren
New Haven, CT
Bruce Oren creates art across a wide variety of media in styles ranging from
hyper-realistic figurative to post-modern abstraction.
Raised on Long Island, Oren attended the University of Maryland. His first job
was as an architectural sculptor, restoring significant buildings including the
San Francisco Mint, New York’s Carnegie Mansion and the National War College in
Washington. As a graphic reporter, his explanatory graphics informed readers of
the Houston Chronicle for more than 27 years. His Los Angeles Times/Washington
Post Syndicate OpEd illustrations were carried in newspapers and magazines
worldwide.
Oren’s work has shown in galleries across the United States and Europe. His work
for non-profits includes the 2001 Houston Cow Parade, for which he created
“Steering Committee” in fiberglass and polyester resin to benefit Texas
Children’s Hospital.
Oren now lives in New Haven, carving stone and wood, painting and drawing. Other
work includes film, photography, multimedia production, and composing and
playing music. In the coming year, he hopes to open a performance art/gallery,
where patrons can order art in any media and any subject and see the work done
while they wait — making fine art a shared experience between artist and client
— at a price accessible to anyone.
